Joining us from Cairo via Skype, journalist Ethar El-Katatney provides an in-depth look at this week's unrest in Egypt. What's happened since the ousting of President Hosni Mubarak in February? Why the recent violence this week? What are the expectations for Monday's elections?
Chris and our panel (Washington Post writer Ezra Klein, CBS Sunday Morning contributor Nancy Giles, national security reporter for Newsweek and The Daily Beast Eli Lake, and writer Rebecca Traister) get a first-person account from Ethar.

Hi Chris,
Your show is always too short but today it was frustratingly more so. The Discussion with Ethar was fascinating as was the subsequent discussion with your panel. Have you thought of an 'overtime' time type session for the net? Great show with great guests and although you were no slouch as a guest you are even better as a host. Thanks for keeping the left right screaming matches to a minimum!
Good Luck
I want to know just how high her IQ is. She has to have great parents.
More Ethar please. Absolutely wonderful, intelligent clear reporting what's going on. She's fantastic.
More Ethar please. She's a fantastic presence, intelligent, articulate, clear. More!
Great show Chris! I thought you was good filling in for Maddow, but now that you have your own show you're much better..
Incredible interview with Ethar! Can't believe how perfect her English is. She must have an IQ in the 160s. That interview was another UP's coup!
BTW Can't live without UP anymore; it's an integral part of my weekends now. We need longer Ups, more Ups, 7-days-a-week Ups, Weekend-nights Ups; you get the idea. You are a wonderful host, the perspectives, the commentaries, the insights, the interviews, the humor, the "what do we know now" part of the show; it's all great and inspiring. Thanks, and let's start a campaign for MORE UP!
Could I get more coverage concerning Governor Brownback's gestapo tactics in Kansas HS? Seems he has a goon squad on Twitter watching for student responses. Can you help?
Wow! Great show once again. Up With Chris is single handedly saving political discourse in this country. Those old Sunday morning interview shows are so yesterday. Ethar was incredibly clear articulating what attempting real change means for Egypt. Chris should have her in-studio someday.
Chris, The absolute best political show anywhere, can not get enough of it. Have been suggesting Up to all of my friends. Talk about fair and balanced. The discussion is relevant and level headed, no drama no irrational babble, just honest opinions with open discussion. WHAT A BREAT OF FRESH AIR!!!!
Chris,
Excellent reporting on Egypt. You might also have on Sharif Abdel Kaddous, a producer and outstanding reporter for Democracy Now, who is about Ms El-Khatatney's age and is doing fantastic reporting from Cairo. (I believe Rachel had him on her show during the first uprising in January). His uncle is a prominent member of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Please extend our gratitude to Ethar for her great report and interview! I'm going to need an update- from her view, next weekend- after the elections.
I do not understand how there can even be elections if no one knows what's going on. Hopefully it is dreadful communications, but I didn't get the idea that even Ethar could clarify what will be on the ballots. That's very weird.
Wow, Ethar was wonderful! And I am so happy to be able to watch your show Chris even though I am up here in Canada. It has become a weekend ritual for me.
Thank you MSNBC for being so smart.
I learned more from Ethar in 20 minutes about what is happening in Egypt than I have in the past year from other journalists. You should devote a complete show to her insights.
All your shows have been excellent thus far. I especially enjoy the panel members that you gather for your discussions. Impressive! Kudos to all.
Thanks for putting Ethar on the air. Both Fox and MSNBC could learn some journalistic style, grace, and humility from such a wise spirit. If yours and their hosts would act a little more like her, I could stop switching back and forth between channels looking for non-biased information. What a breathe of fresh air.
