Over the past decade, Americans watched in bafflement and rage as one institution after another – from Wall Street to Congress, the Catholic Church to corporate America, even Major League Baseball – imploded under the weight of corruption and incompetence. In the wake of the Fail Decade, Americans have historically low levels of trust in their institutions; the social contract between ordinary citizens and elites lies in tatters.
How did we get here? With "Twilight of the Elites," Christopher Hayes offers a radically novel answer. Since the 1960s, as the meritocracy elevated a more diverse group of men and women into power, they learned to embrace the accelerating inequality that had placed them near the very top. Their ascension heightened social distance and spawned a new American elite--one more prone to failure and corruption than any that came before it.
Why didn't anyone ask Mr. Schleck about his role in the O.J. Simpson murder trial? He seems like he would like to have it both ways about DNA, whenever it suits him.
Let's see...maybe because that wasn't the subject of the discussion.
Let's see...maybe that was the subject of the discussion. You can't have it both ways. No one questioned him on why he took the position he did in a paid capacity to dispute the DNA evidence, which for all intents and purposes was positive. Some times you need to change the subject to get to the subject, else wise the guy will show up next week on the side of the prosecutor (and maybe he will, there is still time).
Did you watch the show because this segment was about "Reasons behind wrongful convictions". See the little heading on top...
Just in case you were asleep during his trial O.J. Simpson was never convicted. We can argue about whether he was guilty or not but that is a different matter. The point is that it had nothing to do with this discussion. Unless you mean that his current conviction is wrongful?!?
In addition, the only DNA in that case was that exchanged between Marsha Clarke and her bed-partner/co-prosecuter. Who were too busy screwing each other to put together a good case. But they had no real evidence or witnesses anyway. Not not to mention sloppy police work. So if you are going to be calling anyone out you should be pointing at them.
You might think that he is guilty (most of us probably do). But since there was never a confession we have no real concrete proof. The jury did the right thing, afterall, they have to go with the evidence presented not public opinion.
Why not complain about the cops that beat up R King and got exonerated...it was there for all to see on video. So let's not be selective about what verdicts upset us.
Chris Hayes says: 'I'm 'Uncomfortable' Calling Fallen Military 'Heroes''
Well Chris maybe you should stick to what you are comfortable with like having male genitalia in your mouth.
Chris is 'uncomfortable' calling fallen military 'heroes'? It reminds me of this quote:
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
-- John Stuart Mill
#1. Jesus showed us a better way to live and die. Wars (the greatest divisions among men) exist knot to keep us safe, but to fill the coffers of rich people. Peaceful dissent and a willingness to die for a righteousness greater than oneself is the only way to saving life on this planet. This movement has begun, in Tunisia, Egypt, Greece, Occupy and others. But the lovers of money won't go down without a fight. That is why our government leaders and our own police force assault us. We aren't even safe at home because of the greedy bastards for whom our politicians work. Al Quaeda is falling because it chose the same unrighteous path of warfare to get what it wants. "He who lives by the sword shall die by the sword." And we must not be swayed by the fear od death, because many peaceful dissidents are being killed, tortured and imprisoned around the globe. We cannot let that fear cause us slip into the path of Cain who murdered his brother Abel. "What good is it if, when you are doing unrighteousness, you are being slapped?" Giving in to violence will never provide peace or security for mankind. This is proven by the millenniums of war throughout man's history. The path of peaceful dissent and caring for one another is life's only saving grace. The movement is growing and this is how it will be that God Almighty gathers the nations to one place. God is not corruptible like men, because God is no man. "God is Spirit" "God is Love" and "only God is good." Those immutable statements in the Bible reveal to us that god is no mere man, but rather God represents The Spirit of Love and Goodness. Only by aligning ourselves with that Spirit can we collectively defeat the "the man of lawlessness" who "seats himself on Gods throne" by judging who is deserving of life and goodness and who is not. And he does so by exalting himself as better than certain others. The only evidence he provides of his wisdom is his wealth. And that is how that "man of lawlessness gets revealed" because "the love of money is the Root Of All Evil." How does America find its enemies? It follows the money. But it doesn't follow it everywhere, because if it did they would be led back to its own false god, namely, corporate power through Wall Street. Wall Street uses the government to withhold sustenance by denying laborers around the globe and here at home living wages, education and healthcare. And they do it all for the purpose of making the rich richer without demanding that the rich themselves work for their wages. This is true amongst nations and amongst individuals. Republicans, largely speaking, want to take away from the working people so the rich can become richer. The United Nations is responsible for issuing sanctions against any nation that refuses to play by its rules, rules established by its governing counsel of elite kingdoms for the sole purpose of forcing everyone into submission. This why Revelation says that no one can buy or sell without the mark of the beast. It is Goliath. 666. Goliath was enormously six cubits tall, it had six fingers and toes on its respective limbs, and his sword was six cubits in length. He stood, as does the seven-headed ten-horned wild beast today, in opposition to God's chosen ones, namely all the people's of the earth. But his days are also numbered. He despises the Spirit of love and goodness as well as the ministry of His Christ. He shall be cut down, but not through violence, rather, his power will be brought down by those exercising Faith in The Spirit of Love and Goodness as our only saving grace. Godspeed.
Each wrongful conviction should be automatically investigated for intentional police wrong-doing. Police officers should be prosecuted for framing people. Period. I find it interesting that No one is mentioning this. Maybe then Wrongful Convictions will be reduced Dramatically.
I completely agree with you. My husband has been incarcerated for 19 yrs serving a 25 to life sentence for a murder he didn't commit and it has A LOT to do with the police pressuring the witness to say it was him. We are still trying to prove his innocence and it's been a nightmare. They should be just as responsible for their wrong-doings as the person who actually committed the crime. Great system we have in The US!
There is CORRUPTION AND COVER UP EVERYWHERE.....this is AMERICA...and one would think that there would be *honest and trusting people in the law field*....NOT....there are so many corrupt people....did I say CORRUPT? Yep...over the past few years....I have learned MORE than I ever cared to know about the NC JUDICIAL SYSTEM and just how it *works*....http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-779368 this is where the *BUCK STOPPED* http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-780063 (part 1) http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-780065 (part 2).....it has been a LONG JOURNEY....trust me....thought this part would never end....and to think this was due to *inside connections*....CORRUPTION AND COVER UP...it EXISTS...and there seems to be a LOT OF IT IN NC....http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-736024 here is another case of it....where another man got *caught up in the system*.....
INNOCENT PEOPLE ARE INDICTED, TRIED AND CONVICTED FOR CRIMES THAT THEY DID NOT DO......the judicial system is suppose to be one of TRUTH and JUSTICE....but instead...it has become THE AMERICAN WAY instead....there is NO TRUTH AND JUSTICE in the courtrooms....it has been long lost for some time....we have to give credit to those people who are in charge....it is sad that our country has allowed this to happen....
