Over the past decade, Americans watched in bafflement and rage as one institution after another – from Wall Street to Congress, the Catholic Church to corporate America, even Major League Baseball – imploded under the weight of corruption and incompetence. In the wake of the Fail Decade, Americans have historically low levels of trust in their institutions; the social contract between ordinary citizens and elites lies in tatters.
How did we get here? With "Twilight of the Elites," Christopher Hayes offers a radically novel answer. Since the 1960s, as the meritocracy elevated a more diverse group of men and women into power, they learned to embrace the accelerating inequality that had placed them near the very top. Their ascension heightened social distance and spawned a new American elite--one more prone to failure and corruption than any that came before it.
Should be a campaign to watch dynamics. Romney knows Paul Ryan is the star, and so did everybody else to begin with. Romney gets to tag along. Ryan can pull off an upstage, I think, much better than Palin.Romney is not even in charge of himself and his own thoughts let alone a VP pick with more charisma and who is the accepted intellectual leader of the current conservatives whom defy the very definition of themselves, by the way.
And now I just heard Romney say in his speech: "If you elect Paul Ryan and me...". Now that is a dynamic. Wasn't Romney on tape beforehand mis-referring to Ryan as "the next President"?
I was watching "UP with Chris Hayes" and the topic was racism. This was the most racist show I have seen.!! Who among us has never made a statment that could be interpited as racist? Would you want to be refured to as a racist because someone who doesn't know you says you are racist? This brings me to my next question what is a racist? Someone who says something or something you feel.
Anyways, the show was so racist because they went into whites racism against blacks ignoring blacks against whites. You can't talk about one equally and not the other without there being an unspoked racism.
My point being that if there are 20% of whites assumed to be racist against blacks and there are 20% blacks racist against whites and you only talk about the white, who then is the racist?
Why not just be honest about what you think Chris, and say whites are racist against blacks(bad label) and that blacks are just proud of there race(good label). Or any other excuse you can think of.
I think this picks is saying Romney will do anything to win, not to govern but to win that is the only thing that is important to the man, I think he has daddy issues
I do hope the middle class and working poor come out in droves and elect a majority dem congress and uber majorty in the senate so the country can start moving forward instead of in reverse
2/3rds of Americans don't like Ryan or his budgetary proposals. So ...Romney may have just committed a personal political coup de grace. Romney seems like he's poopin' out. He's winding down as he's becoming unwound on the national stage with a Wall Street billboard as his background. He's about tapped out, and so is his wife, imo. He's also rickety. He really is stiff. The last hurrah of the Tea Party, the Great White Hope is fading. We know what we knew at the start, the GOP doesn't have a candidate for the Presidency. Gobama 2012!
Watching Romney & Ryan on stage together is like watching Herman & Eddie Munster. How can writing a budget that punishes the poor and protect the very rich give Ryan the qualifications to be vp?
Just a comment on the USS Wisconsin background used for the big announcement.
USS Wisconsin was constructed in the Philadelphia Navy Ship Yards - a federal government owned "business" that competed directly with private ship building yards for government contracts.
The USS Wisconsin was constructed by union workers.
